After
Introduction:
The James 149cc SC4 Motor Scooter was introduced in 1963, following the company’s historical focus on two-stroke lightweights since the 1930s. James became a part of the Associated Motorcycles (AMC) group in 1951, along with Francis-Barnett. Initially utilizing Villiers engines, the shift to AMC’s own engine occurred from 1957 onwards.
In 1960, James entered the scooter market with the SC1, featuring a 149cc AMC engine positioned horizontally beneath the floorboards.
This model was succeeded by the SC4 in 1963, characterized by an upgraded four-speed gearbox compared to its predecessor’s three-speed configuration. The James SC4 continued production in this form until 1966, marking the cessation of production for all James models.
